Do you trust me if I said it's not worth it? Do you remember when I said there are a lot more other people who love and care about you?
Life is a long journey, we don't have the rights to end our lives. We really don't have the rights to do so... Think about those who struggle to stay alive, isn't it unfair to end your life when others are fighting hard to stay alive?
It would be fair, I guess, to leave him with the unhappiness and guilt for the rest of his life, because he might not know how much suffering and unhappiness that he brought to her life. He might not know how much she cried, for what he did or for what he said to her. ANYWAY, that's just my point of view, no matter what, I wouldn't agree that one should end his/her life to make someone else suffer. SERIOUSLY, not worth it!
Speaking from someone who has been there, the only person who can stop a suicide is the person themselves.
To answer your questions, I will feel like crap - and that's an understatement - and will want to think that I could have done something but the fact that is sometimes so hard to acknowledge is that the person made a choice to die; much as we will want to take responsibility, the mechanics of it dictate that we had no part in their decision-making, even if they chose to die because of us; it was a personal decision that you likely could not influence.
But we're all humans, this is how we react. Intense sorrow and grief, feeling that there was something we could have done to prevent a sudden death; we should feel that way. Once again, I am unfortunately familiar with this.
